6 Months

This is really late but here we go.... Mr. Miles at 6 months is...

Weight: 16 pounds, 6 ounces, 20th percentile (ok, he's a little small but we'll take it)
Height: 28", 80th percentile
Head: 17.75", 70th percentile (got lots of brains up there I guess :))

Sitting up on his own like a pro. We can sit him down and he can play with his toys which is so nice for both of us.

He's a crawler now! Look out! He's been scooting and rocking for awhile now but this past weekend he seemed to really get the hang of it. With just a little more practice we won't be able to keep up with him.

He has 6 teeth and is using them nicely on some "solid" foods. He is doing really well with baby food and will eat almost anything. I've only found a few things he doesn't seem to enjoy.

He can pick things up with his pincher fingers which, the doctor said, is pretty advanced for his age. I just had to put that in there to brag about my little man.

Miles is growing and developing nicely and had a healthy doctor's appointment and only cried for a few seconds when he got his shots.

Naps seem to be going really well now. He usually will take two a day for about 1.5-2 hours a piece. Hooray!

He's so smiley, we just love it. He has learned to "cheese" for the camera. The red light for the red eye reduction comes on before you snap the picture and he sees that and then looks up at the camera and gives you this big cheesy, toothy smile. It's pretty funny.

This past month we welcomed a new friend into the world, Mr. Hayden Daniel on June 15th to Matt and Brianne, weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs. 15 oz. He's adorable and doing really well.

For Father's Day

This year Nick got to celebrate his first Father's Day and we couldn't be more grateful and happy to have such a wonderful Daddy. He is very hands on, patient, kind, and loving to both of us and I just thank my lucky stars he's all ours.

Nick has been wanting a picture of Miles and I for awhile now for his desk at work, but we just haven't had any good ones. So for Father's Day we went to the park with my mom and Nick's Uncle Joel and they snapped a few for us. Here are the results.

Fourth of July

We had a very nice fourth of July this year complete with BBQ's, neighborhood gatherings, golf, brunch with friends, and good old fashioned physical labor.

We've been wanting to do something to our front "yard" (we're talking 12'x9') for the past few summers because we let Maddie use the front yard sometimes to do her "business" and she had killed most of the grass. Half the yard has pavers and the other half had grass. We had received a few quotes to have a landscaping company do it for us but we have decided that the money we would spend on that needs to be used elsewhere but we wanted to do something to it. So over three days Nick and I took out the grass, dug it down, put pea gravel and a nice boarder around it for Maddie's section. Then my Nonna, mother-in-law and sister-in-law got to work on the planting and gave the yard the final touch it needed. I am so happy with how it turned out and that we got it done for a fraction of the cost (I love saving money). Here's the final product. I only wish I had taken a before picture. Just imagine half of it with dead grass and a few sad plants and a ton of empty pots lying around.

A bunch of our neighbors got together on the third and had a little BBQ and the kiddos got to run around and play. Ours mostly was in my arms eating my shoulder (maybe we won't have a break from teething). We just kept saying "who knew there were so many kids and dogs living around here". It was great to get to meet some new people and catch up with friends.

I don't think he's capable of making a normal face in pictures

She was such a trooper, just kept wanting to hold him even while he was screaming

And on the fourth we had both our families over for a BBQ. It was a fun and productive weekend.

Oh where, oh where, have we been

Well, I've been a bad blog mommy. I am directly quoting my friend Cari by saying I have avoided "all things internet" lately and really, for the same reasons she has stated. We have been busy here and there with activities, trips, family, friends, weddings and on the days we don't have something, I simply want to take it easy and enjoy my time with my son or have a few minutes to myself. So I am sorry to the two people who actually read this blog for my absence.

Here's a quick summer recap so far....

Miles is six months old now and is as cute as can be. He has four teeth on top and two on the bottom. I am hoping we are done for a little bit because teething makes mommy a little loopy (I curse you teething!).

He is constantly on all fours and rocks back and forth and I just know crawling is in our near future. If you've ever been to our house, you know we have A LOT of stairs, so this frightens me slightly considering we haven't baby proofed yet (don't worry, gates are ordered).

Our little man is also jibber jabbering away all day long and I just know he is saying Mama and Dada with meaning and purpose :)

Our friends came over to "celebrate" his 6 months on earth and they were sweet enough to bring a little cake and gift for him. Lucky little guy.

We go to the doctor next week so stats and 6 month pics will be coming then.

So far this summer we have taken a weekend trip up to Michigan with some friends and their kiddos where we all stayed in a wonderful cottage. It was close enough to home that the drive was no big deal (and we all know I'm not a big driving fan) and it was near an outlet mall... so all was good!

Miles and his buds

Miles and I made a trip with my parents to their place in Arizona which was wonderful and relaxing. He did ok on the flight there (after being delayed 4 hours) but on the way back he was miserable!!!!! I love to fly and I don't think  we will be going on an airplane anytime soon. He cried pretty much the whole time and I was a ball of nerves. I had my parents with me for the flight out there but I was flying solo on the way back.

This is how bad it was.... After flying for awhile and trying to preoccupy my screaming child I glanced at my watch and thought we only had a half hour left of flying time. I was psyching myself up chanting in my head "you can do anything for a half hour, you can do anything". Then I see the flight attendants starting a second drink service. I thought "well this is strange with only a half hour left, why would they be starting another service?". So when the flight attendant came by I asked how long until we land and she looked at her watch and said "ummmm.. I would say another hour and a half". I literally almost burst into tears. She asked me if he would like a beverage and I replied "yeah, vodka" (now that would have taken the edge off for both of us). I even hid out in the bathroom for a few minutes to give my fellow passengers a break from the screaming child. Yes, I was that person on the plane. I was scared to go get my bag at baggage claim because I would have to just stand there and all the passengers were going to be able to stare me down. Luckily my father in law had come to pick us up and had come in and gotten my bag for me and we were able to make a dash for the car. I was never so happy to see my father in law!

While we were is Arizona we took Miles to his first baseball game. That didn't go well either. Everytime the crowd cheered he cried. The Diamondbacks were playing the White Sox and strangely enough, there were just as many White Sox fans there as Diamondback fans. So anytime either team did something well, the stadium went nuts. We had to leave in the seventh inning and even that was a miracle.

More has happened, but I think we will end here for this post. Leave you longing for more and I promise I won't wait so long before the next post.
